What started as a passion for music quickly became a life’s work for Rican McGusty. Along with years of experience in the field of civil engineering, he has combined his diverse expertise for a career not only as a deejay but an event planner and all around entrepreneur. He is responsible for the successful branding of himself under the professional moniker DJ Big Reeks as well as the founding and creative direction of The Waxaholics.

Reeks accomplishments in the field of all things music and vinyl include a seven year residency at one of Houston’s best dance clubs Fox Hollow, five years of Sunday brunch at Bar 5015 and eight successful years of Houston's leading all-vinyl night Waxaholic Thursdays.

The Waxaholics have expanded their events to official concert after parties for Big Krit, Kid Cudi & Janet Jackson, plus live music performances from Rah Digga, Scoop Deville, Devin the Dude, Statik Selektah, Camp Lo, Bryan Michal Cox, Cipha Sounds and Large Professor. A few monthly specialty hip-hip parties include GRANDE (six years), OfflineHTX (four years), and The Fix (a joint venture between Houston and Atlanta).

 DJ Big Reeks has spun records along side the likes of Mick (formerly Mick Boogie), Dj Clark Kent, Johnny Cupcakes, Dj Tony Touch, Dj Neil Armstrong, Young Guru, Biz Markie, Dj Drama, Dj Cut Creator, and Kid Capri. He has also done private events for Chris Paul, Rick Smith (Houston Texans), Arian Foster, Tracy McGrady, Mathew Knowles, Tina Knowles, Eddie George, and Darryl Hamilton and opened up for YZ & Special Ed, Brand Nubian, Juvenile, The Geto Boys, Rakim, and Talib Kweli.

The Houston Press nominated Reeks for “Best DJ” in 2016 and Waxaholic Thursday as "Best Themed Party" in 2017.
